Well, depending on what novice level means, the book on this website. The book is a first year book used in an university pretty much teaching the basics of programming and object oriented programming in C#. Recommended C Programming Books. The C Programming Language by Brian W. Kernighan, Dennis M. Ritchie Highly recommended Nobody will question a choice to buy this book. Reading this book and performing the exercises is probably the best way to become a good C programmer.

Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux kernel, owned a Sinclair QL in his youth and used it to learn programming. The QL's Intel Intelligent Peripheral Controller actually ran at a higher clock speed than the CPU (11 versus MHz). When connected to a normally-adjusted TV or monitor, the QL's video output would overscan horizontally. SuperBASIC, as we all know, is one of the most powerful programming languages available for the QL: being extensible almost indefinitely, and with its ability to add commands and functions, SuperBASIC not only allows having a programming language always up to date with the current needs of a developer, but also offers an environment tailored to the single developer’s needs, without having to.

Thinking in C++ (Bruce Eckel) Two volumes; second is more about standard library, but still very good Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++ (Bjarne Stroustrup) An introduction to programming using C++ by the creator of the language. A good read, that assumes no previous programming experience, but is not only for beginners. Yes.. in much the same way that reading the Bible is a good start to learn about justice and ethics. I.e. no, it's absolutely not a good resource for learning C, unless you are serious about it being positively only the start, and you're just reading it because you want to know the historical context that lead to the current state of affairs, before you move on to actually learning C.

Best programming books. Post by JonB» Wed pm. I have had a look about at some programming manuals for the QL. So far I read two machine code books, "Machine Code Programming on the Sinclair QL" and "Assembly Language Programming on the Sinclair QL". Not only does it contain an extremely detailed description of the QL SuperBASIC commands, and an explanation of the structure of the language, it provides a surprising - and nostalgic - window into the early days of super-micro-computers.
